If you saw a rat in a stable

If you saw a rat in a stable2007-11-24 21:17:29

It's a rodent's dream! They have sufficient shelter, and plenty of hay or chippings on the ground to roost in and hide from predators. Plus, if a horse is fed pellets or a treat, I've heard of rats picking up and eating whatever falls on the ground.

Take a shovel and kill it. I'm not kidding they are annoying and they multiply like... well, rodents lol. They are nasty and carry germs.
rats are at every barn, spottless or not, I just hope you don't get your 9yr old worried about them. If they want to be around horses get used to it.
Yup, it's common, every stable I've been at has had rats some or all of the time. I hate the things, because I'm scared of them, they always take me by surprise. I would ask the owners if they know they are there, most people try and keep the numbers down one way or another.

Just out of interest there are statistics that say when you are in the city there are always a certain number of rats close to you, can't remember all the figures now, it's just they have more places to hide in town.

There is only mice in my stable. If it is a rat, I would be worried because they bite a lot more than mice! I would get some more cats for the barn too. But my barn also has racoons.
I understand why you might be worried/interested about these rats. The rats will not hurt your, nor the horses etc..
