Im looking for a job with horses in Houston Texas2007-11-24 21:17:37

I'm 14 year old girl, and am looking for a job with horses (like a stable hand or exercising horses). I have had 3 years of experience riding and looking after horses, and I ride mostly english though I know how to ride western as well. I'm new to the area, and the stables I have checked don't have anything available. This probably isn't the best place for a job search, but I'm giving it a try, since it just might work.

There is a stable in Sienna Plantation that my parents keep my little sister's horse at, by Sugar Land. But the best thing you can do is ask the horse owner if they need a hand like feeding the horses everday and such, if you can get a few owners at the same stable hiring you or something.

Your best bet is going to be finding a place to take some lessons first, and then asking your new trainer or coach if they need some help for the summer at the barn where you take lessons, or perhaps at one nearby. The biggest problem you will face in trying to get hired full time is going to be your age- you are still a minor at 14, and horse facilities are just like any other business in that they normally don't hire people under age 18 to work. You also will have to deal with the fact that it is cheaper for many of the businesses of this type in that part of Texas to hire immigrants and migrant workers to do their dirty work ( like stall cleaning) than it is to hire a local teen like yourself. That's unfortunate, I know, since it means that you will have to compete for jobs ( many of which are scarce to begin with) with adults who may be twice or three times as old as you are, and have families to support as well. But keep looking- if you are really determined, you will get what you want eventually. Good luck.

You might want to check some of the stables in that area in person then that way you can show them what you know, because most people is not going to let just any one take care of their horses you have to show them that you know what you are doing and it would be safer for you also so then that way you can check them out to so see if you want to work for them.
