Im might enter my first horse show2007-11-24 21:17:38

Oh, and to answer your question about the levels, if there's no one else that competes at the intermediate level, you may be the only one in the class. Don't let it make you nervous, the same rules apply! :o)

well you don't need to be worried on how good or bad your going to do .. Ive bin showing for 3 years with 3 other girls last weekend i did great at parts and just did really bad at some .. You dint need to worry about that just go and have fun maybe you wont do so good oh well use that show as like a schooling one .. and then figure out what you need to work on and try and do better next one. chances are you will do great.

We have a new girl showing with us .. she went into her very first class and got a first!

I think you should enter and you will do just fine!

You really needs to pretend that you're somewhere else, practicing normally. Give it your all, and CONCENTRATE.

Practicing before hand in a solitary area is a good idea, so you and your horse can prepare together.

The things that you're about to do should be fairly easy for an intermediate rider.

The judges love it when you show

Good posture

Good communication with your horse (talking to him is a good sign too)

Concentration, calm

Performing everything right

It is hard to say what you are going to be able to do placing wise at any show. Some days, you can just cannot be beat, and some days you cannot win a thing. I used to stress about how I was going to perform, what was someone going to think if I goofed up, what if my horse made a clown out of me? And after nearly 30 years of showing, I can tell you tht if you spend your time stressing over this, then you will miss all the fun of showing. The most important thing is that you go and have a good time and do your best. Win or lose, if your horse gives you the best ride possible and you are happy with it, then you are already a winner. If things go wrong, then learn from the mistakes you make. And laugh about them. Honest mistakes are nothing to be ashamed of. My best friend from when we showed dinasours youth classes (a very long time ago), still laughs at me about tripping and falling flat on my face in a showmanship class at World one year. And I still remind her about the time her horse decided to try and eat the greenery instead of jumping the jump. Horse shows are meant to be a fun thing. Big smiles, laughter and good sportmanship (win or lose) are the best things to take to any show and look like a pro. Good Luck!
good luck in your show. wish i had some advice. im not much of a shower, im more a racer! but what i do is i work with the horse for am hour before a race warm up and just talk to the horse and give it a lecture to be sure he wont misbehave and throw me on the track. My last horse did that and i almost got trampled....not a fun memory!!
when i first started showing, i was terrified but i was only doing walk/trot!! if your an intermediate rider, you'll be fine, so the best advice is to relax and breath and to just trust your horse. i read your other question about communicating with you horse and if you have that good of a bond, then you should trust him/her to take care of you. you booth Will be just fine. another thing, i just entered my horse, who just started jumping in the fall, into her first schooling show last month, and what i found helped me the most was just to relax and try to ride her just like i would at home. we didn't win, but we also didn't have any issues with anything. just pretend its another course at home, and there is no one else watching you. concentrate on you and your horse and nothing else.
welll like the first person said just breathe and relax that will also help the horse relax. sometimes when im at a huge horse show i sometimes think that im not gonna place in a class and then i just end up placing because im already relaxed and i endup doing really good..so i hoped that i helped you out.
TIME MANAGEMENT: Its easier said than done but dont stress out! One thing you really must do is learn to be calm under stressful situations-- you need to learn how to tack and untack quickly-- because there will be times between your classes that are long enough to let your horse have a break when he needs it but short enough so that you really have to be on top of things and ready to tack up in 5 mins or less.
