DONT BE DOUBTFUL!: Most of all remeber that you are a good rider! Dont doubt yourself or bad things will result-- but at the same time remeber that there will always be a better rider than you somewhere in the world and NOT to get your hopes up if you dont place first every time! First shows are hard and I didnt even place in ONE class my first show-- but i bet by the end of the summer you'll be a pro =) Good luck!!\

Oh and here are sometimes you aren't going to wanna forget:

-2 pairs of breeches

-tall boot socks

-boot jack/ boot pulls

-hunt coat

-LINT ROLLER

-whitebutton up shirt

-helmet

-buckets for water and food

-haynet

-hay and feed!

-gromming supplies(flyspray--show sheen- brushes!)

-several HAIRNETS for your hair!(THEY BREAK EASILY) I always forget these!

-lead tope

-halter

-all of your tack

-WHITE warm up fleece saddle pad, good for strict shows, look nice!

-splint boots/bell boots (if you use them)

-horse treats!

Thats all that i can think of, just make sure you make a checklist before you go and for when you come back so you don't leave anything there!

As for your horse in pain-- how do you know this? and should you even show him while he's in pain? if he's not already lame then showing him could make it worse and could make him lame. You don't want to worsen a problem if there is one. For me, I have an older horse-- he is in perfect health but has arthritis. well give him lots of joint supplements and bute him during shows to keep his joint from becoming inflamed. (my vet told us to do this) You COULD bute your horse during a show but i dont suggest it unless it's reccomended by a vet. If it's a temporary problem rather than long term arthritis then buteing would only be masking the problem and could make it hurt worse when he comes off of it..

Exercise your horse first to calm him down. Remember:smile , back straight,look straight ahead, don't look at the judge, Heels down, Don't slouch when your jumping
