My mare is 345 days pregnant and she started waxing earlier today. The wax is a light milky color. Oh ...and her rump is really mushy ,her belly has dropped quite a bit and she eats her hay and alfalfa extremely slowly. How long until she foals? Since she is waxing does that mean she will foal soon?

Answers:

Mares can wax up and not be close but with the other signs you are describing you should be expecting a foal in 24-48 hours. If you start seeing her urinate frequently, get up and down often, and appear anxious then keep an eye out for a baby.

It all depends on the mare but it sounds like she'll have her baby soon!

call your vet immediately she can tell u
Waxing is usually a dependable sign that you can expect a foal soon. All your mare needs now is a nice quiet place to do her business where she has plenty of room to safely get up and down.

Now would be a great time to get emergency numbers on hand for local vets as well, just in case you need to call.

Good luck! How exciting!

Thats very exciting! Wax means she is close, but it could still be a few days. every mare is different. I have seen mares foal hours after waxing, but I've also seen them wax, and drip milk for a week.

Good Luck!

my mare had her foal an hour after she waxed with milk... sounds very soon... her rump "mushed" that day also and her stomach dropped. keep an eye on her! good luck and congrats!
It'll be soon! Within the next day or 2 probably. My mare waxed up 2 days before she foaled, so we checked on her every 3 hours throughout the nights...well, at midnight, there she was, sedately eating hay, no sign of anything, we left her alone, and by 2:30 am, her newborn colt was up and nursing already! When it starts, it's fast! The colt is 4 now by the way, and I've been riding him this spring.
Waxing means she's quite close to having a new little colt or filly! 345 days pregnant..Any time now she should have her foal! A mare is pregnant for about 11 months! Congrats on your soon to be new foal!
