Sounds to me like your gonna have a baby soon Congrats!
if she is waxing she is very close to foaling but keep in mind she could go for a few more days yet
You seem to already have enough answers. I just wanted to say congradulations and I hope everything goes well. Have fun with your new arrival. The baby will come when it is ready. Just be patient.
If your mare's ribs are showing a little bit, and she has what my old coach ( who is also a well known dressage judge and breeder) used to call the"starving dog look", meaning that the foal has settled down into her belly, then you can expect her to foal within the next 12 to 18 hours. She needs to be in a stall that is thoroughly clean and free of hazards like nails or hooks that the baby can catch an eye on, and which is bedded very deeply ( at least 6 to 8 inches) with clean straw, NOT shavings or sawdust. The stall needs to be big enough that both your mare and her baby can lie down comfortably, and also large enough for you and possibly your vet to work in. Mares should ALWAYS be on straw when they foal, never shavings, which can cling to the foal's wet coat and cause an infection if they work their way into the foal's system through the navel. Remember that most mares foal at night- this is a carry over from the time when horses were wild and lived in herds. There was less danger from predators at night, and it was safer for the newborn. My guess would be that your mare will probably drop her foal sometime tonight or early tomorrow morning.
