Im writing a book about zombies, so whats the largest breed of horse
but the shire horse is big also .
A Shire. They are heavily muscled and have feathering on their hooves. One of them holds the record for the tallest horse ever recorded. They can get up to 20 hands. Look them up on Google. You're right about trimming the hooves every 6-8 weeks and the ferrier will also file the hooves and will replace the horse shoes as well. Sounds like an interesting book.
A farrier trims hooves.
A ferrier pushes a ferry across water.
The Percheron is the largest horse in the world. They can be as tall as 24 hands high, and weigh 2,400 pounds. They are easy going, but were used in defense in the Middle Ages. Good luck with your book!
The largest horse breeds are Belgians and Percherons...both larger than the Clysdedale. I don't know about the weight, but try googling these breeds.
There are different breeds of horses that can be tall, but it would likely be a draft horse. The current tallest horse in the world is a 19.1 hands Percheron gelding named Goliath. Most horses weigh 1,000-1,500 pounds, but this particular draft weighs 2,500 pounds. So anwhere upwards of 1,500 pounds for the average draft. Draft horse's average heights run upwards of 16 hands (1 hand being 4 inches), to the greatest of 19 hands.
And farriers (that's how it's spelt) are the caretakers of horses hooves. They typically trim the hooves every 6 to 8 weeks, to keep them from becoming overgrown and damaged. They also shoe the horses. The number of shoes depends on the animal. For the most part, ponies wear no shoes because they have tougher hooves. Some horses wear shoes on all four hooves because they have hoof problems or they just have weak feet. Some have 2 shoes because their back hooves are strong, but need some support on the front. A horse carries up to 70% of its weight on it's front legs. And some horses need no shoes. It all just depends on the horse, but I think it would be safe to assume that the draft breeds need all 4 shoes, because they are so heavy.
The Shire is the largest 鈥?and among the oldest 鈥?of the British horse breeds. Among its ancestors were the chariot horses of the Britons 鈥?described and admired greatly by Julius Caesar two thousand years ago.
