Anyway, perhaps you are not searching on Google correctly? If you put something in quotations, for example "horse barding" versus horse barding, Google searches those two exact words together instead of separately. This gives you closer matches to what you are searching for.

I tried it on google and got good, relevant results. I'll try to look for a pattern to help you out... In the meantime, a few sites with history on barding:

EDIT: You're quite welcome! Oh, and about the champron: I would buy a traditional metal one if your horse will tolerate it, otherwise a good leather one will do. :)

Don't forget some places refer to it as "Trappings" instead of "Barding."

I had great luck when looking for help with "Horse Trappings" or "Medieval Trappings" -- seemed to work well for me.

I made a costume for myself and my kid. It definately wasn't SCA approved, though I do know how to do that if I could.

If you need some advise or even if you wanted me to help with patterns, etc, b/c I've done this before- drop me an email. I'll send you photos of the ones I made for my horse and I. :-) Personally I think we both look lovely.
