I also worked in England in a top eventing yard and we used warm soapy water to clean saddles just make sure is dry before you put it away. also use oil on this however only wee bit and rub in well with cloth. hopes this helps

well if ur thinking fos substitutes for things like mane and tale shampoo\conditioner etc. you just use regular stuff tht ppl use i do all the time and they smell great afterwards!!

I have always used Murphy's oi when I did not have any other supplies. I picked up a used bridle a while ago. It was slightly dirty and the leather was drying out. I cleaned it twice and looks almost new. Mix about 1-2 capfuls of murphy's oil to about 1 gallon of water. Then use a cloth or sponge (make sure to wring it out well) to clean your tack. You may need to clean it two or three times at first in between dryings to get it looking better, then as often as needed.

Yes! This advice came from an excellent saddle restorer. Clean with dishwashing liquid. ( She recommended Dawn) & oil with olive oil. I have used these exclusively ever since and now I don't even bother with the stuff from tack shops.

BTW, I buy the good olive oil for cooking and the cheap olive oil for my saddles & bridles.

murphs wood & all purpose (oil soap) cleaner. it works really well especially if u put minks oil on afterwards. im not sure where you can buy it. you can buy it in a spray bottle or in a container that you pour it into warm water. best of luck
