Most of us wear numnahs under saddles - i don't think saddles over here are as heavy as yours - we have them fitted to the horse. I use a back pad on one of my horse as he is young and changing shape still but will get the saddle re-fitted with him! If a horse has back problems then ppl will use a saddle pad!

Do you mean on top of the saddle to sit on? because when english riding you should be as close to the horse as you can. If you mean under the saddle we do have a thin saddle cloth or numnah.

For use under the saddle we have numnahs and when I used to do endurance riding, I had a sheepskin saddle cover for comfort.

Im in Ireland but as far as Im aware most UK people, like us Irish DO wear numnahs under our saddles - for cleanliness and comfort reasons.

A numnah sits between the saddle and the horses back to provide a softer cushioning for the horse - it also protects the sweat and dirt from soaking directly into the leather.
