Info on a vintage Saddle2007-11-24 21:17:47
I have an old Western Rawhide Saddle I am trying to find out about. I was wondering if there is a website on line I can use to research this particular make and model
Answers:Call this guy..
Martin J. Bergin
Saddle maker
Cowboy poet
He's into all that old stuff.
I think his # is 314-423-5990
Or google his name
Or go to www.everycowgirlsdream.com May be a link there...
Good luck!
The best place to start is the maker of the saddle, Go the makers information folio and see if you can identify your saddle. If that is not available, Start writing to different clubs in the discipline you ride in. Maybe someone can tell you the information your looking for. The saddle should have a brand name or mark on it to identify the maker.,
I learned a lot about makers and styles by looking at vintage saddles on Ebay...I know that sounds stupid, but there are usually good pics of the makers marks on vintage saddles, esp if they are really old, or unusual makers ( Like Heiser or Selzig) You can also buy cd's with makers info, styles and tree types. A good site for just general saddle info...tree styles, different types and styles is http://www.western-saddle-guid... I might be able to help you out if you have photos of any maker marks...look on the horn ( Simco, Big Horn), both fenders( Big W, Western Saddlery, Big Horn. TexTan/ Brahama), under the jockeys ( Simco), on the join behind the cantle ( LongHorn, Simco) or on the stirrup leathers ( TexTan) The companies that are still in production can often give you information, if you can find a serial number, or a style stamp. If it's built of a ralide tree, Ralide.com will have tree information...most Ralide trees have the model number stamped into or molded into the tree...look under the saddle, up by the gullet. If you post pics, I'll see if it's something I recognize (-:
That sounds just like the saddle i have. I got it from a saddle maker for my old busted saddle and $65!!!:)
