Interested in becoming a breeder
can you plz give me some information on becoming a breeder? do you go to college for this? I'm new to this (i'm only 14) and i'm trying to get familiar with certain jobs. thank you!
Answers:You don't necessarily have to go to college to become an equine breeder. Before I got my degree in veterinary medicine I took classes to become certified to artificial inseminate- which I highly recommend. Because of EHV and the benefits of getting to breed a wide variety of horse's all over the world AI is taking over the horse industry in whole. While there are still a number of people who hand or pasture breed- AI has become the more plausible solution for those people who want to breed to a certain stud but live out of state or out of country.
While there are different ways you can achieve your goal here are the main few-
1. Own a stallion that has made a name and people are wanting to breed too. He MUST have earned major points and have LTE that exceed the average equines expectation. If he had a limited career then he MUST have produced money earners or GET.
If you own the stallion you may choose to stand him at stud at your own ranch or stand him at a Stallion Station. One of the most reputable Stallion Stations today is Oswood in Weatherford, Texas. They stand such greats as Peptoboonsmal and Trashedaous.
2. You could choose to work for a reputable stallion station or established ranch. However, you must have a undergrad or degree to even be looked at by most. Get your education in such a field as AI or veterinarian tech. to make you stand out from other applicants who may apply for the same job.
You are about to get a ear full !! people on here think that they are the only one that should breed dogs and your just a puppy mill so be for warned
OMG brace yourself hun.
