Is 4 too young for a horse to jump
If you want to know for sure, get the vet to x-ray his knees. If they have fully formed, it's probably okay. I have heard that it can be better to wait until they are 5 or 6. It's up to you! It's probably good to take your time though, and not jump too high.
Is potty training over? Are you serious or just need attention ...
YES.
yes, absoloutely.
The horse (eques cabbalus) needs to spend time still developing its bones
also young horses wont have even had enough time to learn all the basic flat work needed for controling the horse because remember: 99.9% of the time in show jumping your on the flat the rest in in the air, jumping!!
if a young horse of 4 is jumping and knocks a rail it would really hurt it because it is not fully developed
There are numerous types of conformational faults and unsoundness in the horse if jumped young
Training a horse is not just riding. The better the ground manners, the better their performance, the better the horses' understanding of what is expected of them and that helps horses lead happier lives.
Helping horses lead happier lives is what it is all about - one horse at a time.
Starting young horses under saddle is something that gives me much pleasure.
It never ceases to amaze me how horses with all of their innate survival instincts of flight and fight to protect themselves from perceived danger, ever allow us to sit on their backs let alone be willingly guided and to look to us for security.
