Is Strongid C 2X a good dewormer for horses2007-11-24 21:18:08

If I put my horse who I regularly paste deworm now on Strongid C 2X does that mean that I no longer have to use any other dewormer product? And, how well does this Strongid C 2X work? Any praises on this product?

Hi, You should use a larvacidal dewormer such as ivermectin or moxidectin before beginning administration of a daily dewormer, to help destroy existing larvae and parasites. Since you were already using a paste wormer you have already more than likely succeeded at doing so but its just a note.

Since the The C 2X does not kill bots or kill all tapeworm stages, it is good that you administer a praziquantel or TapeCare Plus once or twice a year and also an ivermectin or moxidectin paste once or twice a year to be on the safe side.

An example of praziquantel wormer would be Strongid Paste or Rotectin P or Strongyle Care.

A n example of Ivermectin wormer would be basic Ivermec, Zimectrin, or Ivercare.

Besides the extra precautions, daily wormer has been shown to be effective, but you still should try to add the paste wormers in to be safe. I agree with the previous answer that paste wormers are best mainly due to cost effectiveness, but that is your own personal preferance as a horse owner.

I use it for puppies and dogs for a basic dewormer but not for tape or whip worms.

The only time I have used it is on animals, I couldn't deworm, its a good feed through wormer. What I worry about is using it consistently on a daily basis like it recommends and them coming up with insensitivity to it or the worms being immune etc.
