I have seen this done on horses in open level shows in the midwest. If you french braid the main evenly along the horses neck, and fold the finished end under and tie it off, it will look about the same length and flatter the neck about as well as banding. A lot of reiners and performance horses that wear long manes do this around here, and at that level it looks fine. If he is the best horse, it should not make a huge difference in placings, as long as you conform in all other areas.
No, very short pulled mane, banded. Have turned out horses for AQHA World and European halter and always been banded. The mane needs to be short too otherwise it just looks weird.
Well, you don't see it too much, but if you can't clip the mane - I guess that's your only option. I'm sure it will still look nice.
Braiding is never appropriate in a western halter class !! Banding the mane is what is appropriate.Im assuming your going to an open local show.A well comed out mane left longer is a lot better than one that is completely inappropriate for your discipline.
Unless you are a point show then do what you want! Banding is typically acceptable while braiding and french braiding are not. But then again, unless you are chasing points for a championship for a breed show, do what you want! The judge should be focusing on conformation, not a pretty braided mane!
That is a english thing not western
i dont think so
No.English yes.Not for western. Can't you trim it with scissors? That's what we do.And some horses don't do well with clippers anyway.
