Is it just me or is the sitting trot more of a workout than the posting trot
I have noticed this while riding because when I sit the trot I am constantly moving with the horse and it gets tiring after a while, but I do feel like I have more control. Thank you!
Answers:It's supposed to be... that's why posting was invented.
I believe it was the pony express riders who started it, which is how the term came about (postal service - posting). Since they rode such long distances, posting to the trot instead of sitting kept them from getting overly tired or sore.
Posting trots are a lot easier since you're kind of allowing the horse's gait to push you out of the saddle and then back down. It's like a controlled bounce in a way. To do a sitting trot correctly you need to be able to move with the horse without bouncing. When you master the sitting trot it's a wonderful feeling, you feel so much more of the horse's movement. This is probably why in dressage you only post the trot in the very lowest levels.
Yes, I think it's more of a workout too, because you have to grip more with your legs.
Sitting at the trot feels more like a work out because your hips are in motion with the horse. As an older western rider and trainer I will give you a few tips. Until it feels more comfortable to you, try riding with your feet out of the stirups. This will help you to relax your hips and make it more comfortable. When you put your feet back into the stirups remember to relax your hips and go with the motion. The more relaxed your hips are the smoother the ride.
dido!!
Much more of a workout! You have to use your abs to stay up!
.It can be more of a work out if it is not done correctly. If your waist is very supple and moving with the horse's movement, then it can be a very comfortable ride. (That is if your on a nicely balanced horse).
