Is it normal for mare to abort colt and six weeks later have a normal foal

Is it normal for mare to abort colt and six weeks later have a normal foal2007-11-24 21:18:00Answers:

It isn't normal, but it does happen. Usually when a mare is pregnant with twins, she will prematurely abort one.

Its a natural thing that ensures the safe birth of one foal, and for the safety and health of the mare.

A friend of mines horse aborted one foal and about a month later had a happy healthy colt.

Its a sad thing, and it is one reason why most mares very rarely ever have to live born twin foals.

i dont think so and i know quite a bit about horses oh andplz if u have time answer my question!
No, it is not normal. It is rare for a horse to have twins. It is rare that one survived. Congratulations on your miracle.
That seems hard to believe she could go through labor enough to push out one but not the other. It is very common for one twin to be stillborn. Mares aren't built to do the twin thing like some other animals. It just happens by accident sometimes because the egg splits at an early stage. If you still got one healthy foal and the mare is well, I would count your blessings!
what? mares are pregnant for 11months not 6 weeks.. did she have twins ,,, didn't your vet advise you that she was having twins,, i am confused
Wow your lucky. Most times they will abort both at once and the live one being 6 weeks early might not have made it also.
