That seems hard to believe she could go through labor enough to push out one but not the other. It is very common for one twin to be stillborn. Mares aren't built to do the twin thing like some other animals. It just happens by accident sometimes because the egg splits at an early stage. If you still got one healthy foal and the mare is well, I would count your blessings!

Wow your lucky. Most times they will abort both at once and the live one being 6 weeks early might not have made it also.
