Is it normal to get like this while jumping2007-11-24 21:18:00

ok, so i've been jumping for 8 years now and i'm jus doing little verticals bout 1'5. well i'm not even doing a full course yet adn i'm jus doing a line, and well, i think it's cause i get all "worked -up" when i'm doing a line cause ter's so many thing s i have 2 do and i always well get "over-worked" sort-of after doing it a while and i dnt jump the jumps rite, is it normal for ppl 2 get "worked up" like i do cause m heart stars racing and i'm all out of breath but i no i can do the course mentally.

I get pretty nervous too. You need a horse that you trust and that you know is capable. If you get worried doing a line, start with one and work up from there. Once you perfect something make a new goal, like increasing height or riding a small course etc. GOOD LUCK =]

yes
Yeah it is. I get a little nervous still when I'm jumping my horse. But we do 3 foot courses so I guess it's understandable. You will eventually get used to jumping and over time you wont think it's that bad. When I first started doing 1'9" courses I got so scared. Then the next year when I did 2'6" or so I lookedback on how scared I got and realized that it was nothing. YOu just need a kind horse that will help you learn.
When I jump, my heart races, my mind prepares. The reins are eaten by my hands until they're tight, my legs come forward, I go up, and jump and then I'm heading toward the next one, the same process occuring again. It doesn't bother me. This happens when you have been jumping courses 6 years. It becomes instinct. Try to train yourself to make it an innate behavior (although it will always be a learned behavior [science geek here :) ] ). And trust yourself, and the horse beneath you. Email me if you need more help.
it is some what normal im not a jumper yet but my cousin is and i have been rinding for 13 years and i fell that way to some times
ummm..after 8 years of only 1'5''. I think I may have been scared for like the first 3 or 4 jumps and when I move up in height. Now that I have jumped 4'9'', I don't get really scared. Now I just get excited about going higher!!
You need to be over that after 8 years. I could give you a year, maybe, of being so nervous. I've been jumping for 13 years now and I get nervous everytime, but showing close to 5' and being able to get around a 20 jump course is something that I am proud I have progressed to. You need to start progressing after 8 years...
If you're getting this nervous, you're probably not having the fun you should be...

You might want to try another discipline. Try dressage, or even competitive trail riding. They're both fun and challenging, and not as nerve-racking as jumping can be.
