Is it ok to feed your horse bread

I didnt see anything wrong with it a first but something just told me that maybe I shouldnt be. My horses recieve a piece of bread every now and then like as a treat or if I go to Ryan's, but my dad started to give his own horses at his house bread as more of a daily thing he has bought like a load of bread to feed to them. He has three horses a will feed them like a loaf a piece sometimes. I was wondering if their bodies couldnt digest it properly, causes excess nutrition that they dont need, or anything small/big problems?

Bread contains dairy - milk, eggs, etc.

Horses body's are not designed to process the proteins from dairy products!!

Bread in moderation may not cause adverse reactions to some horses but it is NOT something that EVERY horse can eat and some will react more strongly than others.

Personally, anything with dairy or meat proteins is 100% off limits to my horses. They are herbivores and their body cannot process protein the same way ours can. They are designed to eat grass, hay, weeds, and occassionally grain.

Only youngsters which still nurse have the digestive enzymes in their gut to process the protien from their mother's milk.

When they are weaned, they lose the enzymes to digest protein (ever seen a weanling's manure? Either REALLY hard or REALLY runny? B/c their stomach is adapting to the change.) And once these enzymes are gone as weanlings, they're gone for good!!
