Is it okay to field board a mini horse
Yes, Just make sure you have a run in shed.
Keep in mind minis are easy keepers, so I would just watch their weight, you may have to adjust their pasture schedules.
of course! all the mini ponies at my barn are kept in a feild! make sure he/she doesnt eat to much of the grass tho. it could cause colic! so give it breaks, walk it around for 15-20 mins! hope this helps :]
no because they can founder easily i know a couple mini breeders who told me not to field board a mini because they founder easy. :)
It can be. They get hugely fat on very little grass, so lots of grass in the field is a big no-no. Some horses hate the tiny ones so you'd have to be certain of any pasture mates if they aren't also minis.
But, a mini that is worked regularly can easily live out.
Neighbors of ours drove their mini regularly and he lived out on very good pasture with 4 16 to 17+ hand TBs and did very well.
When I managed a barn a few years ago our minis stayed out in the winter and on a dry lot in the summer with an hour or two of grazing time daily during the warmer months. They were also driven regularly and kept at good weight. A breeder friend of mine keeps his on dry lots with just a run in for all the young stock and dry mares. He tried pasturing but the ponies got too fat for showing.
So, is it ok? Can be depending on the circumstances.
Absolutely! Make sure you have good fencing and adequate shelter and free acess to water...horses, all sizes, are much happier outside than locked up!
That depends on the fencing involved. My minis run in a huge pasture and if they can find a small hole-then they will wiggle through it! The pasture has lots of grass-but you know the saying about grass being greener! Miniatures are very curious and some just like to go on adventures to the neighbors. Just make sure the fence is good enough to keep one in and you should be fine. If you are boarding with other large breed horses, make sure everyone gets along well. Mine are also with some Thoroughbreds but they all get along well. You can also put up some panels with a small opening so the mini can get away from any bothersome big horse-or you can set up a bar so they can duck under. Usually the minis will boss around the bigger horses. Best of luck, sheri
