Is it okay to give my horse a bath when its 90 degrees or should i wait til its more in the 80s to g2007-11-24 21:18:02

It is fine to bathe your horse in hot weather, ridden or not. I'm not sure why some think it will cause heat stroke. At the racetrack when they work in the am unless it's the dead of winter they all get hosed off after walking a few laps in the shedrow & a few sips of water. They then continue to cool out properly by walking either in hand or on the machine. In summer it's common to hose several times after a race during the cool down. In fact I've seen the officials place hoses along the paths in summer so you can stop & hose them on the way back to the barn. If your horse has worked hard just don't REPLACE standard cooling out procedure (walking & small sips of water) with the hose.

you can do it when ever! as long as the water is cold it would feel good to him to have a bath in this hot weather!!

He would really love you if you gave him a bath at 90 d. Just make sure to work quickly and not let the soap dry on him. It will feel better for both of you do play in the water when it is hotter!

It's fine - our mares wallow out into the stock tanks and stand there all day up to their shoulders in water. Will help him cool.

hell like it even better the hotter it is...He's probably sweaty or at least feeling warm so the cold water should feel good to him...especially after a ride!

the hotter the weather the better reason to bath a horse. the colder the weather you have to be more careful. Like if it's 30 degrees dont bath your horse unless it's with hot water and you have him inside a wash room and barn to dry off.
