Is it true a horse show harness doesnt have breeching
I am looking at getting a medium quality harness for continuing in training my mare to drive. I don't really know all that much about driving, just the basics, and have been driving about 2 years now limited witha mini & a hackney. I broke my mare to pull logs using a homemade harness- it was soooooooooooooooooooo hideous, just some crap I twisted together & stuck on her! LOL! She's a good spirit though and took it all in stride.
Anywho - I am looking at this harness, it happens to be a show harness, but I am not interested in that. The price is right. The woman selling it told me she's never used it & it is complete but doesn't have breeching, and she then said a show harness for horses doesn't have breeching straps??
I don't know enough about driving to know if this is correct or not? I know both my mini & pony harness (granted they are not genuine "show" harnesses) both have breechings on them, and we show in them. The shows I've been to, I've always seen them on.
Answers:Breechings are typicall for a work style. However, I do have a pleasure harness that I show the mules in and they both do have breechings.
I know that they use the crupper on those show styles so yes, they can come without breechings and you will be fine.
Congrats on the price, its hard to find good deals on those.
Most show harness set ups do not come with breeching, so yes she is telling you correctly. It is a good thing to have for driving at home though. It is not required to show for AMHR.
