Is my horse thin
My roping trainer said she needs half a can of pellets twice a day... she now gets one flake alfa. twice a day

Answers:Nope, not too thin at all.
She look sooo great!
Keep her on the diet she is on.
The way I was taught by my vet is, its ok to feel rib but you should be able to fit your finger between each individual rib.
Gorgeous horse!
Remember that Arabians are a more refined horse, the shouldn't look chunky at all.
Having both owned and judged Arabian horses, I can say your horse looks perfectly fine.
if your roping trainer says she needs half a can of pellets twice a day... then maybe you should give her half a can of pellets twice a day (just a suggestion). or does one flake of alfa. have the same nutrition value as half a can of pellets?
anyways i think your horse looks great. if anything, just a tiny, tiny bit thin - but some horses are just made that way, it's nothing drastic or anything. he (or is it a she?) looks perfectly healthy to me.
hope this helped!
She's a lot thinner than my horse... But I'm no trainer or anything.
She's not terribly thin as it doesn't seem her topline is interrupted nor ribs are visible. She looks like an arab so mind you she will never be built like a wider/heavy quarter horse. She could use a little more weight, especially if you are working her. How much does she weigh? How many lbs are in your can of pellets? Does she get hay other than the one flake of alfalfa?
