If you're looking for a friend to ride with I'd call around your local stables and find out if they have group trail rides or if one is being held for a charity or something. Great way to meet new horse people!
I live a couple hours away from there, but unfortunately I'm out of horses currently, sorry :(
However, keep an eye on the newspapers and see if there's a charity trailride sometime. You'll likely find someone who'd be willing to ride with you there.
