Is this a conformation flaw or weight loss
I just bought a 6 yr old QH/Arab geld. He is very skinny because his previous owner was not feeding him like he should have. He has a lump of bone across his rump on his spine that is very prominant. Is it a comformation flaw or caused by the weight loss?
He is broke to ride and will be nothing more than a trail horse but i am just curious if it will be less visable when he gains weight. Check out the pics below http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s281/...

Answers:That bump will be less visible as he gains weight-but he is part Arabian and remember he will never look like a foundation bred QH.The usual tricky conformational flaw with QH/Arab mixes is mutton withers. You definitely will not have a problem with that as he has prominent withers! (Lucky you-as my rescue QH/Arab mare has to have a custom saddle to fit her properly.) The best trail horse I have ever owned is the beforementioned mare and I hope your "rescue" case goes as well as mine has!
It looks like it should become less visible when he gains some weight, but it's hard to tell just from the pictures.
Your horse is gorgeous! I'd try putting pounds on him first, then once he has maintained a healthy weight, check it out again. I think it's just that he's skinny, but if it doesn't go away after reaching a healthy weight, contact your vet. They'll know what to do.
firstly hes a stunning horse and secondly hes not quite as bad as i though he would be .
