which would be the best all round mare and foal book to buy ?

I'm after something that will take into account good detail of the foaling process.

The Horse from Conception to Maturity, Peter Rossdale

From Foal to Full Grown, Janet Lorch

ISBN 0-7153-0722-3

And for the handling after the birth

From Birth to Backing, Richard Maxwell

ISBN 0-7153-1284-7

They include lots of pictures, what happens when it is going wrong, when to worry and what to do. We found the bit up to foaling quite inactive and the foaling very quick! Then the work really started when they were born and we had a case of scour.

The Richard Maxwell book is really for after the birth and how to handle your animals.

Offhand, I can't think of one, but I have 2 that are my bibles. Bleesed are the Foals and Blessed are the Broodmares by M. Phyllis Lose, V.M.D. Search on them for sources to purchase. I bought mine at the tack store. These 2 books are excellent.

If you can find it, Blessed are the Broodmares was an awesome book. Its out of print now, but maybe Ebay or Amazon??
