Mare rolled in the mud and seems to have a hernia any info on what to do It is 5" x 8" in
Have never had a horse get this when rolling in light mud... She didn't seem to have much trouble getting up, but when she did- there it was...
Answers:Hmm... I think you are on to something about the possibility of a hernia. That's serious business, as I'm sure you know. Here's what I would start doing ASAP:
1. Call your vet. Describe the injury, and schedule an urgent farm call. (Don't ride or excersice her until you get the word.)
In the mean time:
2. start saving and raising money... just in case. If your mare needs surgery, you can bet it will be expensive if you don't have horse insurance.
3. Do some research on equine hernias and similar injuries. Email some different vets and equine professionals... get as many opinions as possible.
4. Keep it cool. This may be serious business, but it's not the end of the world. Your horse needs you right now.
Take her to the vet.
i would guess it not a hernia more a bruse, but call your vet
asap
i would vote to get the vet, i mean they may be aboe to help i guess for the time being i would get ice if its hot to the touch it may sooth her and give her some horse aspirin to stop the pain, that sounds weird though, i would not ride her
It sure sounds like something ruptured doesn't it? It doesn't
look like it's going to go away by itself, so call the vet before
she gets into any pain. That's what they're in the phone book
for.
If you have never seen this before then its not a hernia. Hernia's occur at birth. A better answer sounds like a hemotoma. We don't know, we can't see it, sorry, but its not a hernia
