Answers:I'd say you could get in the range of $3000-$5000 for him based on the pictures and what you told us. Now if he had won at the Congress, you can probably start at double that. Incentive Fund and all that won't mean much to most people if he hasn't been shown at breed level. Lots of horses get nominated young and then wash out. Most people are going to want to see points at his age, not potential. Overall, he is a nice horse, though. I would have some professional looking shots taken of him for posting a sale ad. That is a nice halter, but make sure the crown is right behind his ears and the troatlatch is curved around his jaw. Snug it up to where the noseband sits higher on his face, so he does not look like his head is too long. If you do go to a breed show, have the photographer take some pics even if you don't win that day. They will know how to catch him at the right point in his stride, and you will need some under-saddle pictures to demonstrate that he is not a just a halter horse. Another thing that will really raise his price is if he is a babysitter or pushbutton. Even if his size is too much for a kid, there are a lot of novice riders that start as older youth or even adults, that would go for this type of horse. Have you considered leasing him? The college may be interested in him as well (if they have a horse program) - then you could keep an eye on him AND be free of most of the responsibilities of ownership while you focus on your studies.
$17000...and i wouldnt go much lower than that
If he's won shows make it higher than usual. Also it matters on the breed. Check out http://www.horsetopia.com/ if you'd like to see the same breed and what it usually costs.
I think to get a good price, do some shopping around --- see what other horses his age, height, gender, and skill level are getting listed for. then you can get an idea of where to price him at. He is very pretty, but the market is hard right now -- horses just aren't selling that well.
for a registered horse that has done showing and is well broke and has good blood lines and good confrimation (all of this applys to your horse from what i can tell) then start at about 15000.
