Minimum arena size
Minimum arena size2007-11-24 21:18:27
What do you think the minimum arena size is for being able to walk/trot/canter?
Answers:I would suggest a minimum of about 80x160.you could go as small as 60 or so in width, but the length shouldn't be much smaller or you will be riding in a elongated round pen. Riding in a small pen really feels small when you are on your horse at a canter/lope... Doubling the width is a good way to create a nice length. I run barrels and don't really like a pen smaller than about 125x250.
Hope this helps...
p.s. Round pen size...50 to 60 foot diameter, anything smaller and you are limiting yourself and you could put a strain on your horses legs if you work out hard and at a lope often.
50' x 100' but not for barrels or jumps. 100' x 200' for those. A round pen works fine for walk trot canter stuff.
horses can w/t/c in a 60 foot round pen. so what your doing depends on the size. a standard dressage arena is 20meters wide by 60 meters long. or you could have a 125 by 225ft arena that you could do anything in.
20 x 80 metres
