Money Issues, how to save money with horses
I've owned a horse for a while now and he is really draining our funds. I just found a barn that is better than the one I am currentally at. It is $210.00 a month while the other is $150.00 a month. How can I lower the price of the new barn, or how can I cut down on funds to pay for my new barn. Also, the new barn is exceptinally better! How do I ask the owner of the new barn if I can work off some of the board?
Answers:Ask the owner if they have any barn chores that need to be done, and then say that you are a good, reliable worker and would be happy to do any chores in return for reduced board.
I own a boarding stable, and trust me, we are ALWAYS more than willing to lower board in exchange for barn chores providing the person is very responsible and reliable. Make sure you do a good job with what ever work you take on. Barn chores are a pain for the stable owner, and it is so hard to find decent workers. Make sure you are willing to the dirty work though, you will start off cleaning stalls and maybe feeding. If it is a training barn they may need people to walk horses, or lounge horses. Don't expect or ask to do things like exersize ride or teach for a long time. Most stable owners wont let you feed and clean your own horse's stall if it is a full service barn. Barns that do this for the owners do it because it assures the horses are getting good care. If you have a system where people can clean there own stalls, people end up slacking and the barn ends up stinking, or all the horses end up getting fed at all different times. The owners will be more willing to hire you as a stable hand then let you handle your horses care.
