Mosquitoes
For those in Oklahoma you know that it is raining like crazy here! Not only is my poor mare loosing shoes left and right, but the mosquitoes are attacking her like crazy! is there any type of spray that can be put on her to prevent the bugs?? I feel so bad for her!!
Answers:Man, you guys have gotten the rain!! We have not seen rain in a long time, I'd sure swap you if I could.
Well, I don't know what will work if you keep getting that much rain, everything is going to wash off.
Not going into human products or other things, which honestly, in our "normal" mosquito populations (MN), none that I have tried have worked all that great other than "Deet" products.
I have really liked the newer horse spray "Mosquito Halt" but the Dura Guard is weather resisitant and works just about as good. I also liked Bug Block for an all around spray.
Being a Minnesotan for 30 some years, you'd think I would be able to give you some trick. lol
For those unfamiliar with the saying, Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes and mosquitos are our state bird:)

I just researched this.. DEET--unfortunately, it's a chemical. There is no natural repellent for mosquitoes.
i heard bounce fabric softener sheets were effective, but i think it's just a myth
* try a mosquito net! I bet that would be effective
I don't know about sprays, but you should get her vaccinated for West Nile Disease.
bug spray and there is this really good spray that keeps them off from an inch away go to your nearest pet store and as for something like that they usually do
I don't know about spray but have you tried mosquito repelent candles?
do mosquitos bite horses? horses dont have the same kind of skin as humans, so it might not make her itchy. but just to be safe, but a blakeet on her, until the rain stops.
Catnip oil is 10-20 times more effective at repelling mosquitos than Deet, and it's non-toxic. It will probably wash off so you'd have to put it on her regularly.
