Most Popular Warmblood Breed for Show jumping/Dressage/Eventing
I'm considering breeding Warmbloods... what are the most popular breeds (ex. holstiener, selle francais, oldenburg...) that you are seeing in the show jumping, dressage, or eventing world at any level that I would make the most profit on? What breeds do people want?
Answers:Hanovarians are popular for dressage and 3 day events. I would also consider Dutch Warmbloods. Both breeds can fetch good prices.
I think all warmbloods are in demand, not for their breed, but for their athletic abilities.
I guess in my own experience, I would have to say that Holsteiners, Hanoverians, and Oldenburgs are the breeds I have seen the most of at A level shows for Dressage & Jumping, however, I still see a TON of TB's doing eventing at mostly every level.
However, if you are looking to make a profit, don't get into breeding. Seriously. There is very little money to be made, and a TON to be invested. You can't just pick up any ole' mare and breed her to any ole' stallion and sell the offspring for a load of money without investing any yourself.
You need land, a breeding barn, good quality horses - true performance horses that have an excellent record in their history, and the stud fees for superior stallions can be quite expensive, breeding fees from vets & stallion owners are costly, and proper care of the new foal is costly. Plus, you will need to do a lot of the training on the foal yourself, like halter training, leading training, hoof picking, tieing, grooming. Most people don't like to buy young young prospects, so you will probably have the horse until it is 2, until it has developed enough to trully show it's conformation, movement, and athletic potential.
