My horse is very mean when he eats grain
my horse is an Arab, when he eats grain he will kick the other horses and all people that go by him.he runs after all of the horses even if they are not by him.he has been getting worse as the months go by.he has been doing this since i got him. he is now 2 1/2 years old. he also will dig when he eats .one time he got so mad he ripped his grain bucket down.how can i make him stop this or at least make him better and nicer while he eats.
Answers:Why don't you feed him by himself? If you cannot do that then you will not ease the problem. Your horse loves his food and is protective of it, very common. His aggression is getting worse cause he can. His pawing is frustration. Alot of horses paw when they eat. He sounds like my TB gelding. He loves his food and he will pin his ears and lash out but not with me cause he doesn't get away with it. Anybody else that feeds him is scared of him so it makes the situation worse. All you want to do is be able to feed him without him attacking him and then leave him alone. Eating is his time! If he comes after you pick up a whip and take it in with you. He's 2yrs old, so fix it now.
you should put him in the arena when he eats and if he runs after you make him run around the arena until he will let you pet him while he is eating
Horses are only concerned with one thing: survival. Food is obviously a key factor in survival. Some horses can get downright nasty when food is involved and they think that someone may steal it away from them. My horse paws while other horses are being fed until she gets her meal.
