My horse walks away when trying to get on

Actually I have two of them that do it. I will be getting ready to put my foot in the stirrup, when they decide they want to take a stroll. It causes me to hop along beside them. I have tried bending their head around to get them to stop, but they only move in a circle. What can I do to get them to stop? Its really annoying and I have family(All green riders and know nothing of horses really) that like to ride sometimes, but noone will ride now, as they think my horses are untrained and nervous. Also when I do finally get in the saddle they start walking without me telling them to. What can I do to get them to stop this behavior without having to hire a trainer. Please help. I am also a fairly new rider, so no technical terms please, just basic, easy, lesson words. LOL Thanks a Bunch!!

You need to bend their head, and do it consistently. They will move in a circle for a while, but eventually they will understand that it's easier to just stand there quietly and give to the pressure than it is to swing their body around and around.

Try to make this a lesson for them. Saddle them up one day with the sole purpose of correcting this problem, and nothing else. Don't even worry about riding them.

What I would do is put your horse in a halter with a lead rope attached, and of course have their saddle all ready. Act as if you are going to mount the horse, and bend their head. When they start to move in a circle, keep them going--smooch to them, tell them to keep moving in a circle for a couple of rounds. This is their punishment--you're telling them "If you want to move, fine! Just keep moving until you wear yourself out, or until I tell you to stop!"
