My question about my 10 year old arabian mare was deleted2007-11-24 21:18:40

and I don't understand why =( All I did was tell about what happened with her colic and what I should have done in the first place to avoid the problem.

I have had questions deleted as well, and I have to be very careful how I ask or say certain things here, as YA has censors built into its system that can misinterpret or or misunderstand things easily. I'm sorry about your mare- it sounds as though you had a nasty experience this weekend. I'm glad she's recovering, and that you found the dental problem that was underlying her indigestion. Likely, as I'm sure your vet probably told you, this was no doubt the cause of the colic. Your mare probably couldn't chew as well as she should have, and the unchewed food got into her stomach and made her ill. I am curious, though- this is the first time I have ever heard of a vet recommending that a sick horse be taken on a 3 hour trailer ride. Was there some purpose to this? The walking on the longe line I can understand- that is often necessary after a case of colic, to get the circulation going again and prevent the horse from rolling and possibly suffering a twist in the gut- but this other thing is new to me, and I have been in this business for over 20 years. Perhaps you can enlighten me about this one- I am always looking for new information that will help me care for my own horses a little better. Good luck, and I'm glad your mare is recovering.
