My sisters pony is scared to be on his own why2007-11-24 21:18:42
My sister has owned her pony for 14 years and still not found the answer to stop him from trying to get over the stable door when he is left on his own
Thanks
Answers:it's not a good idea to leave him alone. i know one that tryed to jump the stable door and started rearing. he could do himself damage if you aren't careful.. get other horses to be there or maybe put a sterio on - it might sound like people? needs a companion in field.
Horses are herd animals-- they like to be with others by nature and to most horses being alone is a dreadful thought. Some don't mind it at all but i've seen some horses that CAN NOT be pastured alone or else they freak out. Is it possible that he is too attached to some of his pasture mates? If all of your horses get along, every month or so or even week, rotate their pasture mates so they don't become too attached to just one. It's not really safe to put two horses in one stall or a small one at that-- maybe get him a goat that can be in the stall with him and keep him from getting lonely during the night. It should stop the problem since he's probably out to pasture most of the time anyways. Just a few suggestions :]
He's afraid to be left alone. This is not unusual, and he won't get over it. Get him some company - either another horse where he can see it, or a pet, like a goat to stay with him.
