My sisters pony will not stay in a stable on his own2007-11-24 21:18:42

My sister has owned her pony for 14 years and she still cant find the answer!!!!

Answers:

Pony's and horses like company. They are herd animals and do not like to be alone. Can you get it a companion?

Maybe she should give her more attention. But, when you leave, don't look back or stop when she neighs.

If this problem is with horses, it's not going to hurt to bring her with you. Horses and ponies are herd animals and are ment to be together. It isn't anything you can stop, it's instincts. Maybe you should allow her to go into a pasture with another horse. Or be with another horse. It's not a bad thing, so don't worry about that.

Horses are herd animals-- they like to be with others by nature and to most horses being alone is a dreadful thought. Some don't mind it at all but i've seen some horses that CAN NOT be pastured alone or else they freak out. Is it possible that he is too attached to some of his pasture mates? If all of your horses get along, every month or so or even week, rotate their pasture mates so they don't become too attached to just one. It's not really safe to put two horses in one stall or a small one at that-- maybe get him a goat that can be in the stall with him and keep him from getting lonely during the night. It should stop the problem since he's probably out to pasture most of the time anyways. Just a few suggestions :]
what do you mean :" stay in the stable by itself"? Horses like to be out in the pasture then in the barn so unless your closing the pony in the barn- how do you expect it to stay their??
