My yearling stud colt jumped the fence twice now so would he make a good jumper2007-11-24 21:18:44

When we first brought him to the farm we kept him seporated from the others for a bit and one day everyone was getting all excited for some reason and when they all ran to the far side of the pasture my stud colt just cleared the 4 &1/2 foot fence with ease... and then he did it again and that time they weren't excited... so should he make a good jummping? He has the willingness

Basically you answered your own question. :) A horse shows potential for things from the time they are born. If he is showing promising jumping skills, you can harness it and work with it when he gets older and ready for work.

Its not really fair to judge just because he jumps. Judges look for different things when a horse jumps for show
ashley if you were a babe, i probably jump a fence 10' high
i would say work with what you've got, and it sounds like he could easily be your next jumper since he has a talent for it.
Probably so! It sounds like it. You should probably work on training him. Good luck! You might be earning blue ribbons.
it sounds like you found your new star jumper!!!!!
Wow. I would say he would be a jumper. Its to hard to tell right know. He he with any oter horses mabey he wantsto go see and play with the other horses. If he keeps up with jumping show him in a jumping class if I were you.
Yes he sounds like good jumper material. But right now he is looking for mares. He is growing up.
he could be but the jumps look alot different then fences.
I think that there is the possiblity there... Usually, the first step in evaluating a good "jumper" prospect is to see them "free jump", so obviously he has that part down. However, what he was doing was jumping out of his enclosure as a "flight or herd instinct"...he might not be as willing in an arena setting. You might want to set up some low jumps (1 to 1/1/2 feet) in your arena and see if you can get him to "free jump" those in controlled environment. If he does that well, then once he is started, you could proceed to starting him over fences...if that is the direction that you want to go with him.
