Naff off wit deet, any good2007-11-24 21:18:44

My two horses suffer badly with flys especcially when out riding i have tried many things, including having a full fly net on there faces when out but this botheres them more. Has anyone used Naff off with Deet and is it any good?

Answers:

Deet isn't good because it's a toxin so there are risks. Try wiping them down with clear vinegar. Besides making their coats shinier by removing any soap residue it evaporates quick so the smell doesn't bother you as much as the flies.

Have you tried Cooper's or Carr & Martins?..these r the two i found worked best for us.
I always used a Citronella based repellant.Jungle formula works too for humans but put it on my horse too.Try really early morning rides, alot less flies about then!Plus less traffic, dog walkers, etc.
No, I use show sheen. I buy it for $10 a bottle at the local Horse Auction that comes every 2 weeks, and it works really good for me.

I dont think theres anything that fully works, but this one works pretty well.

I have 2 horses a Peruvian Paso and a Tennessee Walker. I also have 2 donkeys I use it on.

I have tried it on my elexis she didnt seem to mind it at all it worked ok but ive found that horse flys dont like skin so soft from avon the original kind i think they hate the smell or taste but thats what i use hope this helps
I always keep some off in my pickup for those times I run out of fly spray and 'forgot' to get some. Its a good backup, but not something to use on a continual basis.
