Hi, I'm really interested in using some natural horsemanship & horse whispering kind of methods with my horse but what are the best? I was thinking about doing parelli but it seems really expensive! Any cheaper options that work just as well/ better? ( I'd like to try a few different ones out)

I have seen Monty Roberts before, read John Lyon's training techniques and magazines before, and just a few weeks ago started Parelli with my one mare.

I think any type of natural horsemanship is a great thing to do - most of it is just common horse sense, and building a realtionship with your horse by ground work and just hanging out with them, eventually building up to a goal of developing such an understanding of each other that there's almost no visible communication going on to get the horse to do what you ask.

The Parelli DVD's are EXPENSIVE. If you can borrow them, or other training DVD's, that is a great idea --- and you can take what you need from them. They might offer you some tips that you haven't thought of before, and I know the Parelli DVD's have certainly put a few things in perspective for me.

I have owned my mare for over a 1 year and only the other day did she "join up" with me for the FIRST time EVER, after our 3rd "Parelli-time".

I don't think you need to go stir crazy buying the licensed products from these trainers - there are alternate options, but the most expensive thing might be getting your hands on the DVD's in the first place.

I was talking to my vet, and he has some Parelli DVD's that he is going to lend me... why not check around and maybe "rent" them from someone? (they are super expensive to buy, but if you offer to pay them something, I would think that would make them more willing)
