What are some good exercises to help my horses neck and poll get stronger so he can tuck his head lo2007-11-24 21:21:06

I show english and I need a/some good exercises to help him hold his head longer. He will go into it, but needs constant reminder to go back. I need help exersiciing so he can hold longer. I mean like this:

It would help if daily you streched his neck, this is so his neck won't get too stiff, because then he will refuse to put his head in a tuck, or he will and it can cause serious damage.

To help him hold it longer, use draw reins. After you work with him daily, he will eventually learn to hold his head there. Then slowly release the pressure on his neck, and he will hold his head down. ****Make sure you BARELY let it out. And gradually release his head, or it will RUIN everything you've done.

In a month or two you should be able to totally take off the Draw Reins, but even after that, at least for a few weeks after, I would use the Draw Reins at least once a week, just to reinforce, but do not overdue the Draw Reins! Then he will learn you will hold his head down for him.

stretch his neck left right and down betweeen his front legs every time before you ride (use a treat to get him to follow your hand), i've been having my horse get massages twice a month and that has helped her a lot..

You might want to look closer look at the picture you have as your goal. The horse is behind the vertical as though he is avoiding the bit or being pulled into a false frame instead of working through his back and up through his neck. Finding a good instructor would be great - but one thing to concentrate on when you are riding is to see if you can feel your horse's back come up when you get him "round" as it is just as much about his back as his headset.
