What are some good grooming tips for horses
I'm starting to work with a two year old pony, what are also some other good tips for working with a two year old pony and training It? It is already trained, but it is still a little green.
Answers:Remeber that it's ok to ask for help! I suggest having someone help you once a week or so, kind of like a lesson, so you can improve your riding and the pony's.
Dont give up! It's really hard to break young horses, just remeber that giving up won't help any thing and even if you get frustrated you cant walk away, and untack you need to work through it.
Be consistant! When training a horse it's important that you always send him the same signals for the same things each time.
Develop a bond while your not riding too! Come out sometimes and just graze him and give him a bath.
Dont be afraid to teach the horse discipline-- bucking, rearing, crow hopping or whatever are NOT acceptable and those problems need to be tended to right away.
Start getting him used to being groomed, hoof picked and touched and worked with a lot. You want a horse that will grow up to NOT kick and be very OK with humans and busy places. Start desensitizing him to new things so he will have a lower chance of being 'spooky' when he gets older. It's best to introduce them to new things while they are young.
1. Make sure you know what you're doing.
2. If you don't get proffesional advice/help/to do it instead
