What are some good ways to keep your horses hooves from cracking2007-11-24 21:21:08

i have tryed a bunch af different conditioners and supplements but i need to know some that work preferably some home remedies

Answers:

An old remedy that my grandfather taught me seemed to work very well for me and my horses. Allow the water trough to over flow a bit allow the area around the trough to become a bit mucky then add a gallon or so of used car oil so as they would have to step in it daily as they came to drink. This works very well for keeping hooves soft and will not harm the horses.

Tuff Stuff - It really is the best. I show TWH plantation horses and the shoes are heavy on the hooves. This is the best I have found.

Use for toughening shod or unshod hooves, as an aid in moisture retention, and to strengthen soft or mushy hooves. May also be used as a show cosmetic to give hooves a glass-like shine.

It is only about $10.00. Will last you about a month if used daily.

Tuff stuff works so well just put it on before and after you ride and it will make a big difference i have also heard of people using tuff stuff on the bottom half of the hoof and rain maker or some other kind of moisterizer on the top half

it's different for every horse. some horses don't even need it!! :D Just try lots of stuff and find out what works for you!

hoof black workls as a sealant, and some hoof moisturizers that are applied on the hoof like hooflex.
