What are the best, most helthy oils or products to use for shedding a horse when nothing else will w
I have a 20 year old quarter horse that is in very good condition. She is at a healthy weight and she is on a regular worming schedule. She has no health problems and is up to date on all of her shots. Everything is great, but she just wont shed at all!! I have tried everything: slick n easy block, shedding blade, curry comb, giving her a bath, but the one thing I havent tried yet is products or oils. If anybody knows any thing that works great but will not affect her health it would be great if you told me...thanks!!
Answers:You can try using regular vegatable oil. Veg. Oil is what most horse people use, and you can also utlilize Omega 3 which is more expensive. Administer only about 2 oz. per feeding in either grain or on hay since you don't want her to pick up additional unecessary weight and she should slick out within a couple of weeks time. If not it may be a lack of minerals.. So you might want to try to add mineral salt to her grain or a block of mineral salt to her stall. It can't hurt either way.
Also, another alternative is Rice oil, found in Rice Bran but you should use caution when giving Rice Bran since it is VERY fatty. If I use Rice Bran I use EquiJewl. The site might give you some info on Rice Oil if you are interested in that.

Best of luck!!
vegetable oil put a cup ful in every feeding and her coat will slick off and b beautiful
NEVER add as much veggie or corn oil as Rhinestone suggested. A cup for each feeding is way too much. The most an equine should be getting a day is 3 oz.
