What are the caracteristics (signs) of when a horse has a cold

On the left eye it is puffy and there was a clear yellow discharge coming from his left nostril, i just noticed it today. The symptoms are only on the left side.

When horse shave acold, they will have yellow mucus coming out of there nose, as they get better, oit will become clear. The eyes will become puffy and irritated, and often their manure can become sloppy and not digested properly.

Many horses have it only on one side, and then it may progess to teh other, if you think about humans with runny noses, one nostril is block and the other runs.

Try garlic and a warm ran mash, you can also use camomile to help settle the stomach and make their digestive system better.

Call your vet if the symptoms are worse or same tomorrow, the vet can give a shot of antibiotics and may suggest an alternative treatment, it may be a simpole cold, but it could also be something worse, wait and see.

I would also out the horse in a smaller paddock away from other animals, as colds, like in humans can be passed form host to host. I would also rug teh horse at night and if the days are fine and sunny, take the rug off, if the horse rolls, then its pretty healthy. Giev plenty of hay, and use an easy to eat feed, such as pellets and chaff, warm the bran and soak the pellets to make it into a mash, this will be digested easier, and will help put any nutrients into the horses system. Also add some garlic to the mix, and use a mineral mix to help boose the immune system.
