You have the answers to 4H

I've done my best to figure the differences too, from the US and abroad.

A tie down (for horses) is typically a (thinner bosal looking) nose peice. They are made in 3 styles, flat leather, rolled/braided leather like the bosal and cable, or plastic coated bike chain. Each designed for the amount of pressure it applies. Then you attach a leather or other strap from the center of the girth and run it to the ring on the nose band. Many ropers and barrel racers use these devices to help set the nose and poll of the horse to help the horse "brace" in turns and assist in keeping the horse on its haunches. When the device is used incorrectly, its used to keep a horse from tossing its head or to gain more control with a bit. Personally, I do not use these, and am totally against them being used incorrectly and adjusted incorrectly (which is seen more often than not) Talk about making a horse nuts, tie its head down and spur the heck out of it to run when it can't stretch out properly. (yes this is seen all the time and drives me nuts).

Crow hopping. Well, its not a buck but the horse is "bouncing" (lack of better term). A bounce, both in the front and hind legs.. kind of a bouncy rocking chair.. lol. (like my descriptions) he he.
