What breed does he sound like
What breed does he sound like2007-11-24 21:21:18
I have been looking at a pure black horse with 3 high white stockings and a big blaze. He is just a yearling now, but he looks like he might top out at around 16 hands. The Amish own him, and were going to train him (I don't know what he was going to be trained to do...), unless I buy him. I was thinking maybe Standerdbred, Saddlebred, Morgen, or Thoroughbred. Will add pictures lated today...
Answers:If the amish are interested, I'd say standardbred. They like the standardbreds, but usually get them off the track since they are already broke to pull. He could also be a draft cross.
It's impossible to tell from your description. It could be any of those, or none of them. A picture would really be needed for even a guess - although it may be difficult to tell for sure as a yearling.
Agree, it is pretty hard to go off of wording. It could also be a broodstock paint.
Is he drafty looking or just a light horse? The owner will be able to tell you what type of breeding he has. They tend to use Standardbred crosses for buggy horses around here, but most of them are plainer than you mention - not a lot of white. If he is draft, he might be percheron or shire - we will look for the pictures!
I would think hes a morgan...
its hard to tell from just a description
He may be a cross. Standard crossed on paint would give the size and cause him to be just like a breeding stock paint, no pattern but have lots of white. Or it could be a lot of other things!
He could be Thoroughbred or Saddlebred not Morgan they ar usually not tall .Ask them they may be able to tell you what he is or if he has papers. He could be a standard bred the Amish buy and use them for buggy horses. Sounds beautiful if he looks like you say.
it could be anything from that description! it could be a freakishly over grown shetland pony! give more details!! put pictures up...something!
You can not tell anything from his description. NEED PHOTOGRAPHS!!!!!!!...
My horse if from the Amish too! :) He's a great guy, perfectly broke and does whatever you ask. Nik's not very spooky, either--as close to bombproof as you get. The Amish often have drafts and draft crosses, so the horse you want might be a cross. Do the feet have any feathering at all?
Watch him at a trot... Does he trot or does he pace? If he paces, probably a Standardbred. Otherwise he could be almost any breed or cross. Amish usually train for harness primarily and saddle as secondary. Ask the seller what breed he is if you aren't sure, I grew up around the Amish/Mennonite communities and they are usually pretty honest people.
