When my horse is asked to do a lead change every other stride, he drops his shoulder by the second one?
Answers:Try some muscle therepy. Usually when the haunches, shoulders fall out, it is b/c they dont have the strength to carry you and himself.
on the first jump u should reward him with a piece of carrot or with a sugar cube make him know that he has done something right
Not sure I totally understand your question... so you are working on two-tempis?
It's my observation that usually when tempis go awry, it's caused either by tension, or from lack of forward energy. Both causes result in the horse getting "stuck" and unable to swing freely.
Changing leads every other stride requires some pretty intricate adjustments on the horse's part, plus sychronization between horse and rider. If you are more familiar with what you're asking of him than he is, you may have to backtrack and break it down more for him. Can you work on this with your dressage instructor or mentor? Having someone view the two of you may really pinpoint the problem
Do a flexion test on him. If you do not know how to, ask your vet, or write me back. Check to be sure he'snot sure in his shoulders, knees, or fetlocks. If not, and your sure of it, then its a habit he has picked up. Try a lifter bit temporarily, or try turning him in the opposite durection he is dropping his shoulder in occasionaly, so he is caught off guard. This will change his habit and may keep him "lifted" because he is expecting you to turn him in the other direction. It may take a few days for him to realize tht the routine has changed, but it has always worked for me in the past.
