What did you do as a horse crazy kid2007-11-24 21:21:26

I used to do this thing in my backyard with my friends and their little siblings where we had this huge book of horses (more than 100) where they were from levels beginner-advanced and if neighborhood kids came along, we'd let them pcik from beginngers and if they stayed long, we'd let them pick up a level and we'd run around the backyard, cantering and troting, and galloping and sometimes if you were 'riding' a horse that was acting up, you'd snort, back up, ect and act up. As my friends and I got older, we just sat on a box and gave 'lessons' to their siblings and the neighborhood kids and sometimes jumped the jumps because we wanted to see how high and sometimes we'd lay under the jump and have someone jump it.

I never told any of my friends at school because they'd think I was a freak.

I had a german shep/akita cross named Roxie. I used to pretend she was a horse and I would take her in my backyard and set up some jumps and pretend she was a horse jumping over them. Also my friends and I would Take the dogs and pretend we were in a show with them. The one firend would be the announcer and judge and would give us commands like walk, trot and lope. Whosever dog did the best won.

I also had a yellow lab that I would actually ride. I would use her choke chain as a bit and I would hop on, but only stayed on for a few seconds. I also used to ride my market pigs for 4-H.

Fly around on my crazy pony who did nothing but rear over backwards and I would just laugh and hop back on. Skip school and ride over to the playground and jump the equipment... oh god my poor paren't ha ha.
Yes, I remember those days well. My sister and I never went anywhere without our hands on the "reins" in front of us, usually at a full gallop. We made up stories, had pretend rodeos where our horses would buck us off, and barrel raced around obstacles in the yard. We lived and breathed horses, read every book we could get our hands on, and saved every horse picture from the Quarter Horse Journal, even though those bulldog-style sorrel stallions all looked the same! Those were great days. After we were about ages seven and nine, we were on actual horses most days, since we lived on a cattle ranch and there was always something to do on horseback. We lived in the barn--our mom only saw us at meal times and bed time! Good question, brings back fun memories.
A trip down memory lane. I had a tree in my yard that had a fork at a perfect level. I made up a harness and used to saddle and ride the tree...lolol. His name was Big Red. I also had the old broom stick with a newspaper rolled up in a sock for a head and used to canter, jump etc. I too used to saddle and bridle my poor sausage dog and made him jump too!! I now have my own property with 2 beautiful horses, one old one young. You never grow out of loving horses. I am in my 40's now and have been a horse crazy girl from age of 5.
I got my first pony when I was about 3, and grew up on my parents boarding/training barn with 30+ horses, so I never really pretended with horses, they were always just around. I would always go out and play with the horses, my pony was more like a dog, I would take him on picnics, attempt to have him pull a sled or wagon and would even try and bring him into the house before my mom would stop me. Before I got my pony I would ride my rocking horse, and would even wear my sisters riding helment while i did it. I had a ton of friends that rode when I was little, I was friends with all the kids that took lessons at our barn, so we would always ride together, and play games with the horses and stuff. Our neighbor was a huge dressage barn, and would host yearly halloween parties where everyone would come with their horses and dress up, play games and stuff. That was always alot of fun.
