What is The Wonder Bit used for
I use it for pleasure riding & I occasionally barrel race. But my horse keeps chewing at the bit. I've tightened it & he still chews at it...I've loosened it but it makes the problem worse. He has had this bit for 3 months so I know he's not playing with it to get used to it. I don't know what the problem is. Right now it is tightened to where he has two wrinkles. Is that to tight or too loose? When I loosen it he chews at it more.
Thanks!!!
Answers:The Wonder Bit is a GAG bit that you want to stay AWAY from! Gag bits are extremely inhumane and if used at all should ONLY be used by the MOST experienced of equine professionals.
You don't say what kind of bit your horse is currently chewing. You also don't say what kind of bit he USED to have, if he chewed THAT and WHY you changed bits in the first place. There are very important clues in that missing information.
Changing to stronger bits only make a horse WORSE not better in the long run. If you changed bits because the horse was starting to ignore the old one, then you have a BEHAVIORAL problem to deal with. That is you must go back to basics and review/re-enforce them with this horse before he gets any worse than he already is.
If the bit your horse is presently using is a Snaffle bit, two wrinkles is what you WANT. In that case you might try a Sweet Iron snaffle bit. This is: a snaffle made of sweet iron. Horses like the taste of sweet iron and it helps them keep their mouths moist. Copper would be a second choice.
